As Ulric left the island, he was not as confident as he had pretended. The huge, grey wolf disturbed him. It was a physical beast with no magic, and under normal conditions, Ulric would have merely despised it. But these were not normal conditions; he was still very weak and releasing Fenris would cost him strength. Keeping the wolf under control after it was released would cost him even more.

Ulric had no illusions about the beast. It would turn on him if it could; since he was a spirit, it could not, but it would not hesitate to escape his power if the opportunity presented itself.

Which would leave him without an ally and sapped of strength.

He was approaching the mainland as he came to a decision. He would use Fenris only as a last resort. First, he would try every other method.
